Colpi

Welcome back! For the second recommendation I will be discussing Colpi Geleteria.

address - 38 Main St, Milnagvie, Glasgow G62 6BU

website - https://www.purecolpi.co.uk/gelateria

Colpi Geleteria is located slightly outside of Glasgow, in Milngavie (only a 20 minute drive, or train journey) but it is definitely one worth mentioning. Differing from the popular newer dessert shops, Colpi ice cream uses an 100 year old recipe which remains unchanged. The premises opened in 1928 just after the Italian immigration making the ice cream  truly traditional. This gives Colpi that extra special feel. Furthermore, their artisan ice cream is fully handcrafted every day in store making it even fresher and tastier. It is also something which is hard to come by these days. Colpi's motto is 'when life is complicated, you can rely on Colpi to keep things perfectly simple. Our traditional ice cream captures the sweet taste of purity' and let me tell you they do not disappoint.

On arrival to the shop it can easily be noticed by their blue painted outside. Inside follows the same theme of being blue and white as does all of their ice cream tubs. I found this to be nice as it is simple and makes everything tie in with each other making the brand name recognisable when seen. However, for some, the look of the shop may not be everyones favourite and could be viewed as slightly dated. Don't let this put you off though because once you have an ice cream in hand the decor will no longer be a consideration. Unfortunately Colpi does not really cater to sitting in so bare that in mind if visiting. As a whole the atmosphere and decor of the shop portray how traditional the place is. As for the staff they are always friendly and attentive which is a bonus.

Colpi tend to base their ice cream flavours around the seasons with the likes of pumpkin spice in the autumn and fresh fruit flavours and sorbets throughout summer. The thought that goes into their ice cream can be seen through their attention to what consumers want - offering flavours such as tea and biscuits on a rainy day. My favourite has to be pure colpi! Their longest running vanilla flavour - basic, I know. Ice cream is their best seller for sure but if you're fancying something different they also offer sundaes and milkshakes.

I think Colpi ice cream will forever be my favourite, unless they change their recipe, but I can't see that happening anytime soon. If you're in the area or want somewhere new its 100% worth trying.

Pure Colpi

However, in recent months a new branch has opened up in Bearsden, extending their clientele beyond their typical university students. It is the UK's first ever churro and ice cream bar which adds a unique touch. Their signature dish is the Loop and Scoop, consisting of, as the name suggests, a scoop of ice cream with a big loop shaped churro. In addition, they offer a variety of ice cream flavours (take home size tubs are also available) and different styles of churros ranging from churro bites to larger sizes with a side of sweet dips.
