Big Licks

On todays round of reviews we have Big Licks!

address - 47 Finnieston St, Finnieston, Glasgow G3 8JU

instagram - @biglicksofficial

Big Licks store is positioned in Finnieston so it is safe to say students make up a big part of the consumers. There is also plenty parking which is convenient but also means you'll be sure to spot some boys waiting for their order, racing around. With Big Licks offering collection, dine in or takeaway service it suits everyone! Furthermore the opening hours are 1-10:30pm so is a good spot to get something sweet after a nice meal out.

The logo is super recognisable and fun, and is light up in red LED on both the outside and inside of the shop - you won't miss it when passing. I've visited Big Licks a fair few times now and tend to just collect my order rather than siting in. However, this has nothing to do with the interior decor or atmosphere. They stick with red and black colours throughout with lots of light up signs which somewhat creates an industrial evening vibe, unlike the previous dessert shops reviewed which have went for lighter colours generating a more relaxing atmosphere. It somewhat reminds me of an American diner which I am a fan of.

from the outside

They offer ice cream, slushies and milkshakes with an extensive flavour range alongside desserts such as waffles and cookie dough. The ice cream flavours on offer are similar to others but also include specials such as pumpkin pie for halloween. Slushies are usually what I opt for especially if I'm in need of some energy as they offer a redbulll flavour which is actually pretty good. Something which I enjoy is how customisable all of the products are. For example, you can pick a mix of milkshake flavours and then decide on lots of toppings and sauces to go alongside it as there isn't a set menu. I've not yet tried their hot desserts but the rest haven't let me down so far.

As for service I find that I am never kept waiting too long for my order. Considering I have only visited on Fridays or Saturdays I am always impressed by this as it is clear the staff are all busy. If you are in the area or feel like going for a drive I would recommend stopping by Big Licks and giving it a try if you haven't already!

Price - 9/10 ranging from £3 for ice cream, around £4.50 for milkshakes and £5.50 for hot desserts.

Taste - 9/10

Choice - 9/10

Atmosphere - 8/10

Overall - 8/10

Introduction to Skye's Scoop

Sometimes a point in the right direction is needed - the idea behind this blog. Over the next few posts I hope to be able to give you my opinions and recommendations on the best spots in town for desserts. The focus will be on taste, variety of choice, a little about the brand and the overall atmosphere. Whether its a late night treat, date night or you're simply looking for somewhere new to try, I'm here to help.  Enjoy x

Loop and Scoop

First up we have Loop and Scoop!  address - 665 Great Western Rd, Glasgow G12 8RE website -   https://loopandscoop.com/#about instagram -   @loopandscoop Loop and Scoop originally opened on Great Western Road, situated in the west end of Glasgow. However, in recent months a new branch has opened up in Bearsden, extending their clientele beyond their typical university students. It is the UK's first ever churro and ice cream bar which adds a unique touch. Their signature dish is the Loop and Scoop, consisting of, as the name suggests, a scoop of ice cream with a big loop shaped churro. In addition, they offer a variety of ice cream flavours (take home size tubs are also available) and different styles of churros ranging from churro bites to larger sizes with a side of sweet dips. Milkshakes are available which are made from their ice cream. Something that is particularly appealing about the shop is that they cater to various dietary requirements including a selection ...

Colpi

Welcome back! For the second recommendation I will be discussing Colpi Geleteria.  address - 38 Main St, Milnagvie, Glasgow G62 6BU website - https://www.purecolpi.co.uk/gelateria instagram - @purecolpi Colpi Geleteria is located slightly outside of Glasgow, in Milngavie (only a 20 minute drive, or train journey) but it is definitely one worth mentioning. Differing from the popular newer dessert shops, Colpi ice cream uses an 100 year old recipe which remains unchanged. The premises opened in 1928 just after the Italian immigration making the ice cream  truly traditional. This gives Colpi that extra special feel. Furthermore, their artisan ice cream is fully handcrafted every day in store making it even fresher and tastier. It is also something which is hard to come by these days. Colpi's motto is 'when life is complicated, you can rely on Colpi to keep things perfectly simple. Our traditional ice cream captures the ...
