Hotel Chocolat

Something a little bit different for this post - we have Hotel Chocolat.

address - 42 Buchanan St, Glasgow G1 3JX

website - https://www.hotelchocolat.com/uk

instagram - @hotelchocolat

Whilst I was aiming these posts at ice cream and desserts, this is a spot that you definitely won’t want to miss. Heading into the colder months who doesn’t love a hot chocolate? Right.

Hotel Chocolat can be described as an upmarket chocolatier chain consisting of cafes, outlets, factory stores and restaurants. They even have a hotel in St Lucia.  The company began in 1993 solely online and by 2004 they had opened the doors of their first shops. Ethics are also at the heart of Hotel Chocolat meaning that their cacao beans are bought at higher than market price to support the farmers. Furthermore they strive to reduce waste and create a positive impact.

Whilst all of their produce is great, for the sake of this blog we will be discussing their Glasgow store on Buchanan Street.

To begin with, the atmosphere - super cosy vibes to say the least. Comfy grey seats and a black, grey and orange colour scheme throughout. The premise is split into two, a shop area on arrival and the seating area slightly to the back. The dimmed lights in the back add to the snug  feel. As for the staff they are all super lovely and welcoming which always makes for a good experience.

I’m sure you can guess from the name that Hotel Chocolat’s range is based, suprise suprise, around chocolate. Their product range in the cafe consists of coffees, teas, hot chocolates, ice cold shakes and ice cream. Whilst compared with other places that offer almost every flavour under the sun, the ice cream on offer at Hotel Chocolat is a somewhat soft serve with only a vanilla option. The hot chocolate and cold shakes on the other hand come in a variety of flavours ranging from hazelnut, salted caramel, vanilla white, milk chocolate and dark chocolate. These come with the option of chocolate whipped cream on top.

"The drink of royalty, rogues and rock stars"

On my most recent visit we opted for a vanilla white cold shake and also a cone of ice cream as I hadn’t tried it before and thought it was necessary to include in this post. The cold shake was WOW, a solid 10. Very creamy, perfect size but not too sickly. The ice cream, even with the limited selection, also tasted very good and cannot be faulted at all.  However, on a cold day these may not be the best option so I’d go for the hot chocolate - they taste of pure indulgence.

If you are a student like myself, or on the look out for a good deal, Hotel Chocolat is the place to be. By downloading the app you are signed up to a members loyalty scheme offering discounts on every visit. These usually get you about 20% off your order so it works out at a pretty good cost for what you are receiving.

With Christmas shopping starting this is the perfect setting to grab a  drink and enjoy the relaxing environment.

Price - 10/10 if you get the app

Taste - 10/10

Choice - 8/10

Atmosphere - 9/10

Overall - 9/10

Loop and Scoop

First up we have Loop and Scoop!  address - 665 Great Western Rd, Glasgow G12 8RE website -   https://loopandscoop.com/#about instagram -   @loopandscoop Loop and Scoop originally opened on Great Western Road, situated in the west end of Glasgow. However, in recent months a new branch has opened up in Bearsden, extending their clientele beyond their typical university students. It is the UK's first ever churro and ice cream bar which adds a unique touch. Their signature dish is the Loop and Scoop, consisting of, as the name suggests, a scoop of ice cream with a big loop shaped churro. In addition, they offer a variety of ice cream flavours (take home size tubs are also available) and different styles of churros ranging from churro bites to larger sizes with a side of sweet dips. Milkshakes are available which are made from their ice cream. Something that is particularly appealing about the shop is that they cater to various dietary requirements including a selection ...

Colpi

Welcome back! For the second recommendation I will be discussing Colpi Geleteria.  address - 38 Main St, Milnagvie, Glasgow G62 6BU website - https://www.purecolpi.co.uk/gelateria instagram - @purecolpi Colpi Geleteria is located slightly outside of Glasgow, in Milngavie (only a 20 minute drive, or train journey) but it is definitely one worth mentioning. Differing from the popular newer dessert shops, Colpi ice cream uses an 100 year old recipe which remains unchanged. The premises opened in 1928 just after the Italian immigration making the ice cream  truly traditional. This gives Colpi that extra special feel. Furthermore, their artisan ice cream is fully handcrafted every day in store making it even fresher and tastier. It is also something which is hard to come by these days. Colpi's motto is 'when life is complicated, you can rely on Colpi to keep things perfectly simple. Our traditional ice cream captures the ...
